New Years resolutions!

A New Years resolution is one of those occasions in which we feel like we can finally start working towards the person that we want to be. Even though it is one of the slight corny times of the year sometimes it seems to work.

So in respect of it being the new year even though I'm late as it is nearly February I wanted to talk about my goals for year and be that person who should be making these goals all year around (but there we go)!

I'm going to keep these goals short and sweet so that I can hopefully stick to them and that will be tested on this blog:

1) I think this is probably the most obvious but to actually use this blog. I created this blog months ago and I've only produced two other posts. It is time to be proactive and build my blog!

2) still on the subject of social medial I want to use my Instagram account more. Currently it's my main source of social media and I want to put more effect into making it the best that it can be.

3) be more productive in my studies. I have four months left of my degree (where the hell has 3 years gone!) and I can only afford my Spanish lessons until September which is when I start my postgraduate degree. I need to get my lazy butt in gear! It's time to study!

4) and finally my last goal of the year, to become healthier. 2016 was amazing because it taught me how rubbish my diet actually was! I stopped eating meat and other animal products and now I want to continue my health journey food and excerice wise. I'm still carrying unhealthy weight and it needs to go!

So here are my resolutions and I hope that who ever reads this (if anyone reads this) will be my motivation! I have shared this with the world and it is time to put my money where my mouth is and work towards a better me in 2017!

What's your New Years resolutions?

Welcome to the Blog

Well we have had a little about me but I wanted to expand upon that a little bit. I'm not much of a writing but the need to write down my thoughts has been growing especially since I became a vegetarian in June 2016 and then decided to go vegan in the same month. I know it might not be a long time but for me this an amazing journey and I want to share this experience.

I am the only vegan in my family and to take that a bit further I'm actually the only member of my family that doesn't eat meat let alone dairy. I grew up on a diet of meat and dairy however I only had around two meals a week containing meat. When I started university in September 2014 I moved away from home and lived in student accommodation and during this time I ate a LOT of meat and takeaway food and between then, moving into my own house with my non-vegan boyfriend (September 2015) and finishing my second year of uni in May 2016 I had gained around 2 stone!

By this point I felt so uncomfortable with myself and how I looked, so I joined a poplar British sliming group and it showed me how unhealthy I actually was! and I actually thought my diet was pretty good. I had been thinking about becoming a vegetarian for a while especially after studying Indian religions (I'm studying a BA (Hons) Religious Studies) and I was amazed by how much things like protection of animals was such a part of their lives. I know that that sounds stupid now but I grew up not believing that the meat on my plate was anything other than food. I had been disassociated from the fact that my meat was a living, breathing animal.

My boyfriend and I got our beautiful little puppy in January 2016 and it was only after that did I slowly begin to gain a realisation. I saw a pin on Pinterest which was about the dog meat eating festival in China and I sat and cried and hug Lola (my puppy) so tight. After that I read something about how badly cows are treated when they go through the slaughtering process and I was astonished! I kept thinking 'why had I never known about this before!' From there I stopped eating meat altogether. As I did more research and watched more documentaries like 'Forks Over Knifes', 'Cowspiracy' and 'Earthlings' (I was only able to watch the trailer before wanted to be sick) and reading books like 'Skinny Bitch'.

From this I decided I needed to go vegan.

I hope that you will join me on my journey as a vegan in South Wales being surrounded by non-vegans. I want to use this blog as a way to write down my thoughts, find likeminded people, share vegan recipes that I discover and much more!

About me

Where to start! I'm a twenty something Welsh valley's girl, living a small town life with big dreams. It may not always be the most exciting place to live but it's home for the time being.

I live a vegan lifestyle which allows me to live a happy, healthy and cruelty free life. As I mentioned I live in a valley in South Wales surrounded by lush green mountains and even though I can often feel at one with nature it can sometimes be hard being a vegan in an area in which veganism isn't that popular. But I make it work!

I live with my long term boyfriend who lives and breathes cricket even in the winter months. He isn't vegan and a is a big meat fan and I'm going to talk more about this in later posts. I
also live with a  beautiful little mixed bread dog who is basically like my child. Making me an all year around 'cricket widow' and dog mam.

Through this blog I want to share my experiences of being a vegan in the Welsh valley's and showing you some of the delicious foods that I get to eat.
